Modelcup SA National Finals 2012

Competition:   Modelcup – South African National Finals

Venue:             Misty Hills, Muldersdrift

Dates:              8 – 10 December 2012

Mom called me into the room and told me that she needed to talk to me about something. What could it be?  Mom said that she received an invitation for me to attend the Modelcup SA Nationals in December.  Mom also explained that we are entering in the Open Division and that the competition will be very tough as I would be competing against all the Provincial winners.  Mom said we had to think about this carefully as I’ve never done this type of modelling before.  The choice was mine… and I said “definitely yes!!”.  That left us with only 2 weeks to prepare my biggest competition so far.

Day 1
We had to leave home early as registration started at 08h00.  We were doing two divisions today, Photographic and body.
Photographic: Everyone had to wear Jeans with a white/black t-shirt, minimal make-up and the look had to be natural.  We had to walk the ramp, stop in front of the judges and then do a range of poses in front of the camera.  And you are not allowed to stay in the same pose for longer than 5 seconds.  Luckily we watched the older girls doing their thing!

Body: We could choose between Gym Wear, Swimwear of Sports Wear.  Definitely swimwear for me!  I love my bikini.  In this division the judges look at how well the model show off and compliment her body through what she is wearing.

What a busy first day.  I learnt so much by just watching the older girls and had plenty of fun doing all of this!

Day 2
I was so glad that we started the day a bit later.  The second day opened with a workshop for the models and their parents.  I was a bit nervous today as I’ve never done Freeze or Beat modelling before.  For these divisions we could choose our own outfits.
Freeze modelling:  This was so much fun.  3 – 5 models at a time stood on stage and had to pose/freeze as mannequins.  Dominique tried to distract us and tickled me under my arms, I really wanted to laugh but tried to keep a straight face.  We had to pose like we won the lotto and then again had to pretend we had terrible stomach ache.

Beat:  We could basically do anything as long as we do it to the beat of the music.  There is no right or wrong here as long as you feel and interpret the music.  You can dance, skip, hop, jump …..

The day ended with another workshop for all the models and their parents.  I was so tired from the day and we decided to go for a swim at the hotel.

Day 3
My two favourites today:  Ramp and Pageant!
Ramp:  This was the high fashion division and we could go way out with hair and make-up.  Loved my outfit (mom made the skirts).  This is like Fashion TV!  We had to walk fast, no smiling and just a quick pose in the front.

Pageant:  My favourite division.  We could wear any evening/cocktail dress or ballgown.  Judges were looking at presentation, personality and beauty.  We all had to give a speech about ourselves as well introduce the next contestant.  I was so nervous at first and my legs were shaking.  But, I think I pulled it off.

Awards Ceremony:  The big moment, everyone in the hall looked tense.  The winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd Places) would go on to the Champion of Champions event in 2013, and will also be part of the SA 2013 Team!  I knew it would be a challenge as I went into the competition with no points and everyone else already had points built up with the Provincials and had an advantage with the additional points.
I was truly shocked when they handed over my certificate and
  • A Gold Medal for Pageant
  • Silver Medal for Photographic
  • Silver Medal for Body
  • Silver Medal for Ramp
  • Silver Medal for Freeze
  • Silver medal for Beat
I’m sure I heard mom scream in the audience!  I’m in the SA 2013 Team and will participate in Champion of Champions in March 2013.
